im thinking this should be in the general section and include all fish
whatcha think?
is there already a thread like this?
mods can make the edit if they want
:D
Keep this one for the arowanas. You can make another for other fish. I'd have ramble about my other fish including the arowana for dislodging the silicon that caused my 18-yr old tank to leak but forget it, I'd end up going offtopic. The aro did help dislodge the sealant of the almost two decade tank much to my dismay.

The theory of TANK BUSTERS is flawed in most cases.
arapaima or a huge pacu perhaps.
but to break the side glass is unlikely, you imagine how much force is on that already, an aro or most fish cannot generate that much force i dont think...
but i never did that well in physics so i am thinking here out of basic knowledge... so correct me if i am wrong.

i find that aros are jumpy if they are in an environment that feels unsecure...
since i found this out, i black out 3 sides of the tnak (back and sides) and this stops them.
also erratic movement and light outside of the tank is a factor.

mine isnt jumpy like that
he hits going after food mostly
but he does freak out every once in a while over nothing
i tell ya,when its a baby freaking,thats one thing,but a 2 footer doing it its like :WHOA:

i guess this thread jinxed me lol

when i got up i noticed the lid where i feed on the 240g was flipped open
i said,i know i didnt leave that open

get closer,i see the latch is broke
he hit the lid so hard it popped my siliconed down diy latch

the pin was in the water

he has a nice scrape down his side "hasnt been swimming much after this also

those latches i made and tested
i hung like 5-10lbs of weight off each one

it has some rust on it now but for all this to happen he had to hit it hard

so he hit it so hard to
snap the latch off
flip the lid open, and it stay open "just like the first pic"
and the pin to come loose and fall in the water

you can see in the second pic the wood is wet so it was a splashy one also

he is a monster :nilly:

lucky no fish got out :)

LOL...He was alone with a pair of G. brasiliensis which are 6-7 inches and then a Polypterus senegalus. They make frantic dashes when I lift off the lid to clean up my tank. That was a few months ago.:(
