Straight answer on Oscar tank size

A 55g will work. The turning space is tight but they don't seem to have difficulty with it. They aren't what I would call a stiff body fish. Also consider that the tail will take up much of their adult length and you don't really want to count that in. With that said however a 75g is a much better choice. You don't have to worry about turning space and it gives you more slack with your water changes. Should you decide you want a tankmate it also opens up a few options (within reason of course).

yea 75 for an oscar, a 55 would work until it hits the 7-8 inch mark

Just wondering if an O would make a good tankmate for a male crenicichla cincta, 3xsilver dollars, and 1x pimoldeus blochii? This is a 75G tank mind you. Just wondering if it would work as I want a fish that will stay more towards the top/mid level of the tank. If an O wont work, I'm going to be putting a Vieja Argentea.

Also, I'm not talking about LFS O's I'm talking about W/C O's from Rapps if that matters any...

I just bought a 75 gallon and stand off craigslist.com. I'm pretty pleased with it.

I haven't thought about tank mates. I think it's so hit or miss with Oscars, especially when they've established territory and you're introducing something else.

75G absolute minimum. Why condem an oscar at adult size (1 year) in a tiny 55G? Anything bigger than 75G helps for water quality, flexability and much more. Buy the biggest tank you can afford, not the smallest tank you think is right because someone said so.

55 gallon...Had one for 8 years in a 55, no trouble. 75 is better, but to answer your question, a 55 is fine. Even a 12-14 inch fish can turn around in a 12 inch deep tank easily. Oscars are left to right swimmers and the 4 ft length is the same as a 75. The 15 inch Oscar is the exception, not the rule. Most max out around a foot. I would still recommend a 75, but a 55 is not by any means cruel and an Oscar can live a very enjoyable, full healthy life in one.

Maybe 15" is an exception because they're usually in low quality water?
