So we took a trip to a better LFS then the ones around here it was 45 minutes away both ways, and there it was a tank full of juvie bichirs (only like 2 inches long), beautiful and at 5.99 each i could help but leave with one. So they bagged him up with oxygen and we came home. Last night he swam swam swam and explored but now hes just chilling at the top of the tank behind the top of the heater. They tank has tons of plants for him to party in and plenty of places to hide. i know hes noctural but is that why hes doing this?

also what sohuld i feed it, i was thinking feeder guppies for now and shrimp pellets to mix things up.

As far as feeding I would suggest guppies as well as beefheart. Mine also enjoy cichlid pellets. :D

The fact that it swam around alot then finally found a spot it feels safe seems normal in my experience.

I agree with Mem, the behavior is normal.

IMO, feeding small fish to another fish is like giving an assault rifle to a 7 yr old. He'll probably kill someone by 12. You're training him to kill. It's possible to feed a prepared food, significantly healthier, and allows you to keep the potential killer with other smaller fish.

If you decide to feed "feeder guppies" they need to be healthy. I'd want to examine the tank they came from before making the purchase of feeders of any sort.
