Unfortunately his condition has worsened. He no longer has the tic, but in the last 24hrs it seems as if he has developed a severe case of fin rot. He is sitting on the bottom motionless and hardly breathing. His color has been almost completely washed out. Seems too fast for a fungal/bacterial infection to have developed, but I don't know.

Bacterial infections can occur pretty quickly. For instance, columnaris can kill in 48 hours.

Agree with Rocksor, could have been acute columnaris (especially if the temp was in the 80sF). With columnaris cichlids usually stop eating, and just hover as the bacteria take over and atrophy the tissue.
A side view pic may have helped diagnose, but if it was columnaris, the prognosis would not be encouraging without aggressive and proper antibiotic treatment.

Yes if it is columnaris its lethal I struggled to keep my texas a live for a month it was on and off. I got temps down to 70s and aggressive treatment. He got a lot better then got worse real bad. I hope he recovers. I would add salt and try meds asap.

If it is columnaris, the bacteria is gram negative, so only an antibiotic effective against gram neg bacteria will work.
Columnar is most virulent at temps of 80 and above, so the normal advice given to raise the temp only magnifies the risk. And the columnaris has the ability to fix itself to gill tissue more efficiently with a high nitrate situation, so water changes are imperative.

Its interesting, because twitching is a normal pre spawning, and dominance activity, but it is also a symptom of infection if things are going badly.
Although seeing the twitch from above is a helpful indicator, its always good to show more angles to get the drift of whats going on, more than you think is needed.
That said a lot of photos that all show variations of the same minute action in the same position are not good if not clear.
Its better to delete all the fuzzy photos, those none focus type, and just show 1 good one.
I take 100 photos of almost everything, and maybe keep 1, or if there isn't a good one take 100 more until 1 is worth the trouble, to get the info I need.
