Then their not hungry enough. Reduce the frequency of feedings (everyday is a little much for opportunistic feeders) and up the amount fed. Sounds like there not hungry enough! Not saying your doing anything wrong I'm just giving advice that has worked for me in the past with piranhas and @7" 2-3x meals per week is plenty for them!
I haven't fished out fillets or pellets since mine were 3" or so.
