stressed out ray ... what should I do ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My male marble pup does it all the time. Mind you looking at the size of your ray he's most likely just playing. I have had mine go on hunger strikes with no issues in the end.mind you turning the lights off is not a bad idea. Now I have to ask what is your water change schedule? Are you in the city or on well water?

Hi miller. May I know how many days your ray goes on hunger strike so I can when I should start to worry .... :) I live in the city. My water change is i do 25 pct on tuesdays and about 12 pct on fridays ....
really hope he goes back to normal soon ...

he is still at it today ... raising his disc againt the tank glass to the left ... however, he is doing it at a somewhat lesser pace now ... and goes to the other side of the tank at times ... feeding is still minimal ... hope his condition improves

After a week or so is when you have to start to worry. Just keep an eye on the base of his tail and if you start to see hip bones that when it is getting serious. I would personally do bigger water changes.

ah ok miller got it ... he's been eating a little ... maybe just a pc or two of cut fish meat ... hoping he would eat more in the next few days ... thanks for the tip ...

just an update guys. after a month, the ray is still at it ... raising his disc against the glass and feeding little. I discovered he is eating on bloodworms but not much so i am feeding him bw currently. trying to heat up the tank too ... any other things i need to do ?

Not intruding on this post, but is this normal behaviour, breathing is nice and slow and still eats twice away. Not a lot eats a prawn in the morning and I'm the evening. Thanks

Thats not good, but I would recommend getting your own thread.
What are the water params? Tank size? Tank mates?
He looks very stressed out

What Jamie is experiencing one of my female retics does all the time. If it is the start of death curl she has been suffering from it for the last 3 years. I have never known death curl to last that long. BTW she is the ray on my profile picture. She does eat a lot though. Mostly shrimp and earth worms.

As far as the original issue on this thread, that as well looks like normal behavior to me. And as far as eating issues I have the same thing going on with 2 marbled motoros. They still eat but have slowed way down. I did have that same situation happen with my retics for a short period of time as well.

Just my 2 cents.
