Hi guys! I'm new hobbist to pike cichlids. I've just got this pike last week in LFS. It was labeled as crenicichla strigata. But I searched the info on the webs. It seems that strigata, cincta and sp. Venezuela have similars body shapes and patterns when they are young.

Could you please ID my pike? What' his potential max size?
Thanks !pike01.JPG pike02.JPG

Is there a gold circle around the tail spot? If it does, then it is not a venezuela, and more likely cincta.

If you have a facebook page, you can ask Vin Kutty

He regularly visits his pike cichlid FB page.

According to my oberservation, there's no gold circle around its black tail spot.
So it's more likely a cincta, not strigata right?
Ok I will ask Vin Kutty later.
Thank you very much !

This is 100% cincta lol and will get to 18 inches. Big growing. You're looks to be a female.
OK thanks. What are the differences between a male and a female? body shape ? patterns ?
The mine is very greedy for foods lol, having always a round belly.

You can see that the dorsal has a submarginal white band running through it which usually means it's a female. Is she on pellets? Looks good

Tail pattern looks cincta to me. Looks like a beauty.
