I'm thinking of getting a few of these fellas.

A few ???

Are they picky eaters? I need something for the bottom to eat any leftovers.

Do they do well in a group? Thinking of maybe three.

Breeding difficulty?

Thanks in advance
Jamie

they do fine in groups and they arn't picky at all mine will eat anything that comes its way watch out these fish have been know to over eat they just don't know when to stop out of all the fish i've kept this one is by far the fattest but they would be good as a clean up crew they just swim along inhaling any thing they find

These fish are great. they prefer sinking pellet food, but will clean up any scraps left behind. strictly notcurnal, but they dont mind heavily planted aquariums. should be compatible with anything that can anything that can not eat it, and anything the raphael can't eat. very community friendly but not a fish to be handled- use tupperware exclusively with this fish, no nets- adaptable to most all water conditions

Very cool looking fish. If you get some, be prepared to never see them if there are any hiding places. I use to have one, and the only time I ever saw it was when I took everything out of the tank for a thorough vacuuming.

As previously said, they are nocturnal, and they will do a great cleanup job when the lights go out.

i have one and i love it, i made a little rock shelf with a plant infront of it in the front of the tank and that is where he hides all day. so i can see him all the time because he is right in the front. they are not picky eaters mine loves the left overs from my turttles dried shrimp meals. they are so cool looking and remind me of sharks when they swim. i dont know about breeding them because i only have one but they are really peacefull i all so have a black common oscer and they get allong well.

best of luck

Thanks for the replies!!!

I've got a Poly Ornate so I never see him except for his tail at the front of the tank. He is 16-17". The Raphaels are gonna be in a different tank by the way.

Anyone ever breed these guys?

How would they be with some Banjo Cats?

These are a very hard fish to breed, but I'm sure it can be done with many fish and many hiding spots. I've never heard of any being bred. They will be fine with banjo cats, I have a striped and spotted raphael in with my asian red tail and they are doing great! the ARTC has killed every other fish, but not these. you shouldnt have any problems with raphaels, very hardy and live up to 20+ years

Thanks Sturgeon.

Now, who has some Banjos?:confused::confused:

yep really hard to breed but its like breeding plecos if that helps both of which i haven't done

they would do fine with banjos they act alot alike both like to hide or sit there all day unless really hungery but cruse all over the tank at night
