striped rapheal catfish behavior?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hes eating dont worry, i had a bumble bee catfish who i didnt see for 3 months. then on day when i fed the tank i saw him dart out, grab summin and go back in.... hes eating trust me

Mine doesn't do that at all. It sits in his PVC pipe and stares off into fishy space. :)

PS. That's great though!

i feed them pellets, just little fragments as all the fish in that tank are only big enough for the pellet frags. but i give them alot extra because my loaches, my pleco, and him eat it all in one night, not to exclude what my other fish eat. but when he thinks he's hiding he right out in plain sight, but he doesn't stay there for very long, kinda like me :D

thanks, he's eating well as he is nice fat and plump, but i thought it was odd as a bottom dweller is up with my oscars and fire-mouths.

I have 2 SR, It all depends on the fishes personality, my bigger SR hides in the plants and drift wood all day, the smaller one swims around all levels of the tank, and then sleeps in the open, almost never hiding

It also depends on the inhabitants and general object placement. My raphael just hides now, but when I had him in a tank arranged specifically for catfish, he got into the habit of strolling from cave to cave, and was spending more and more time in plain sight during the day until I redid things. Now in a 55 with two pieces of leaning slate to hide behind, he never moves during the day. For most people, 'raphael catfish' and 'behavior' probably won't be found in the same sentence unless you sneak out at night and catch him on the prowl.

he's always on the prowl, its getting so active that he swims around with the other fish when feeding time comes around, i have so many hiding spots that you can hardly see my gravel. but yet he chooses the open more then in the cave structures have built

I'd say the reason he comes out so much is that he knows safety is everywhere. If you drastically reduce the number of hidey holes, he might get more nervous and adopt one. But that's just my experience with one fish. Yours might truly be an extrovert.
