Update. Little guy is still not taking any sort of pellet food, pre-soaked or otherwise. Since they've gotten larger, it's clear that his tail is deformed (and has been for a while). I don't think I can chalk this up to differences in food anymore. He's had pits show up and heal up off and on, which I've been attributing to his poor eating habits (he doesn't always accept food when offered, I have been pretty successful in keeping the other two distracted with food on the other side of the tank). Could it just be bad genetics? Is there something else that could be affecting him that isn't affecting the others? There is no real picking or bullying going on, the two larger ones (10" now!) don't seem to notice the size difference. :/
Over the weekend, the littlest pbass began swimming erratically and refused all food, with lateral line disease erosion showing up again. I have tried treating him for worms in the past, and had told myself as long as he was eating okay, I'd keep him (he's been off like this since May). Everyone I have asked has been stumped, and I chose to euthanize him with tricaine. I'm really bummed because the others have been doing so well, and it really chaps my @$$ that I couldn't figure out what his deal was. :/
I'm including a full tank shot of the 75 gallon grow-out. Currently pushing these guys to get that one last inch on them -- they're at 10.5 inches now. I've reduced the stock, doubled filtration, and have been doing 50% weekly water changes to keep them healthy despite the cramped accomodations. Maybe another month, and they'll be ready to go into the 300 gallon. Argus has accepted a 9" oscar in HER space, though, so I wondering if they'd be okay to add now?
sorry for your loss man, but it sounds like it had to be done. I'm currently raising 2 growouts with the deformed tail, but they eat pellets like pigs.
