every fish is different. some fish will be shy for months and others will be aggressive right away. you cant predict this.
Yes but you have a very good chance of gettin an aggressive gold spilo. Almost everyone I have talked to has an aggressive one and most will eventually chase fingers. You have a much better chance of gettin a aggressive gold spilo than an aggressive shoal of reds if you only have a 55 gallon tank.

i do agree with this...most reds i have seen did not impress me (as far as aggression and personality). i'm def a fan of the rhom personally.

Yes I have had 2 rhoms. I still like my lil spilo/mac the best. He is only 4.5 inches and shows more aggression than my 10 inch black rhom ever did.

my 13" rhom will hang with any spilo/mac...guaranteed! :D

I got my 55 gallon about a year ago and I was actually debating the same question. I ended up picking 3 reds because if you do decide to get a bigger tank somewhere down the line you can shoal them with other pygos.

I really dont regret getting the reds over the gold, its fun to watch them spin in circles fighting over some wood chunks in the tank.

55 gallon is good for 1 p's for life, coz a 55 is gonna be stressful for a shoal of reds
