Hey everybody,

I'm planning on ordering a 390gal 96Lx31.5Wx30.5T tank and 30T stand from Glass Cages with all of the options aside from a sump on Monday. $1250 for shipping, oof.

First of all this is for a freshwater setup.

I was hoping to get everything else(along with some advice on what I need) here. I want a sump that's large enough to use with the 390 and a 150 simultaneously, so I didn't go with the sump from Class Cages because A)they don't make them larger than 100g, B)the 100g sump is $900, and C)It would add another $500-1000 to the shipping costs. There's more than enough space in the stand for pretty much any tank, I'm thinking something in the 180-210 range? Is that too big? Is there any reason not to just have a tank with some bio-balls in it? Do I need chambers?

I also need sump pumps, tubing, bio-balls, and whatever else I need for the sump to operate properly. I plan to buy 2 of the 48-60" Marineland Reef LED lights new. I also want to get adequate UV sterilization for 750 gallons if it's not cost-prohibitive, but I need to do more research into the bulb life and power requirements.

The 150 isn't drilled or anything - it's a complete standalone system with 2 canister filters, I'm not sure exactly how I intend to address that problem but I will be able to drain the tank once I get the 390 up and going and move the stock, although it's an Aqueon so the bottom is tempered glass. I don't have experience with the HOB systems but from what I read they can cause a nightmare if their siphon or the sump pump fails.

I also only have adequate heating for the 150. I need enough for 750. I'd also like whatever equipment I need to do a drip and auto-topoff, I'm thinking auto 75g per day water change from the sump.

So. Sorry if this violates any rules. My question is basically "What do I need and will you sell it to me?" :) I'm hoping to get the rest of this done pretty cheap.

Oh, stock list.

All of my fish are in a 150 and an 80 right now, I'm thinking:
390:
Royal clown knife, red oscar, severum(inirida), port cichlid, tiger shovelnose cat, fire eel, earth eater(altifrons), L330

150:
Giant gourami, ornate bichir, pike cichlid(atabapo II), earth eater(jurupari), L128

80:
Hospital/Quarantine

Isn't acrylic considered to be kind of lame for a display tank? How does it compare to starphire? I'm getting starphire on 3 sides if I go with Glass Cages.

An acrylic tank from Envision is going to be 1000x nicer than a glass tank from Glass Cages. Envision makes the nicest tanks I've ever seen anywhere. And I'll take acrylic ANY DAY over glass on large setups.

As for your other questions, you've got a lot and I'm on a cell phone. I would do a large sump with filter socks and submerged bio media like Seachem Matrix. For a pump, depending on desired flow rate, I'd go for something like a Reeflo Hammerhead. For heating, I'd get large titanium heaters on a controller like from Jehmco (that's what I run on my 225).

Not to mention at that size, a glass tank is gonna be one heavy mother compared to an acrylic one. Throw all that extra shipping money left over into a larger tank lol. Also I can't help but feel that $900 for a sump is extremely over priced considering you could get a 125 for less than half of that price.

Thanks for all the advice. I Emailed Envision, hopefully they aren't more expensive. It was going to be about $5300 to Glass Cages including the stand/bulkheads/overflow covers/glass tops/etc.

Pricing for acrylic will depend on the thickness and how many panels they will have to use, among other factors. Have you considered a standard 300 wide? 96x30x24"?
I think the price will be comparable, but you're comparing a Ferrari (envision) to a souped up Honda (glass cages). And really, everyone I've spoken to about glass cages hasn't been thrilled with them. Seen some sloppy silicone (just plain not acceptable) and the customer service from what I hear is sub-par once your order is placed. With Envision being local, you can literally go down there in person, talk to the owner, make sure you're getting exactly what you want, and if you have any questions during the build they're right there.
Really, the only reason I'm suggesting them strongly is because I saw an Envision tank in person (finally!) recently and I was just stunned. I have owned all-glass, viseo, top fin, marineland, Fluval, tru-vu, and seen plenty more manufacturer's tanks in person, and they just don't compare.
Basically, I have tank envy. ;)
