Stuff Growing Inside Filter Tubes??

I have a length of 1/8 ID PEX tubing that I keep handy for cleaning tubes. I take a little bit of paper towel, get it wet and ball it up to just about the diameter of the filter tube. Then I use the PEX tubing to push it through. Never more than 2 passes needed. Works like a charm. The stuff it pushes out is NASTY!

I think the PEX tubing is an excellent idea, thanks. I was thinking of picking up a cleaning brush for a shotgun barrel and was trying to think of something flexible I could rig it to. PEX would be perfect I think. I could cut the end of a cleaning rod off and glue it into end of the PEX and be able to swap the brush out easily.

maybe so. but its great for your tank. full of nitrifying bacteria.

A friend recently told me about a baby algae eating pleco he put in his DIY spray bar to keep it clean... Thought that was funny--probably not the best for the fish though. He moved it when it grew bigger.
