yeah my tem had ich a while ago jsut boosted up the temp did a water change and used a lil bit of melfix....worked a treat!

well I started treatment on friday. i bump up the temp to 86 87 and i am using rid ich. i will be doing a water change today.everything seems to be getting better i have a few days left on the treatment. thanks to everyone for your help. i am new to this site and it is great to know there is a place to come and get fast and helpful answers.

rid ich is really not necessary. In some cases, it can be bad. I wouldn't add more rid ich after the water change.

will the temp bump be enough? i have a redtail catfish in the tank and was told the salt would not be good for the cat. the rid ich seems to be working and the fish seem to be fine.i am doing the water change now i will check back in a few.

i dont know if the rid ich is bad or not..i have never used it.. i tend to only use certain meds if i even use meds at all. i try to cure stuff without chemicals but to what i wanted to say was that salt is bad for all soft water fish including your cichla.. read my post that i linked about 2 post back in thsi thread.. i think all the good info is on the last page

High temp alone is said to be enough to kill ich in most cases - I think it mentions this somewhere in the the sticky on treating ich (diseases section). Needs to be at least 86*F though.
Of course the choice to go with temp alone or use a med depends on severity of the disease and personal judgement

I agree.. personal judgement.

I don't use meds when I don't need to, especially for ich, because they can mess up your filter. My pbass tanks stay about 87* most of the time.

I have also never had a problem with pbass and salt... I never use much though.

yea i was doing some research and found out that aquarium salt is implied for fish that like high ph and hard water because some small traces of salt are found in there enviornment. most soft water fish come from salt free enviornments. salt will work to get rid of ich ect but will also stress fish out as i was discussing with nick int he other forum... you also have to remember that salt molecules will stay in the water with evaporation .. only water changes will reduce the amount of salt in water. just some information and advise ;) remember to use your judgment.... high temps alone will rid ich and a balanced diet will always help keep your fish's emmune system healthy

i only added 1 cap of melfix and boosted the temp up....ich was gone within 2 days...dun go usin to many chemicals...upping the temp usually is sufficient..
