All points to South American bumble bee... from the barbells to the eyes... but what i'm confused on is his size... @5" he is much longer then average... has a ferocious appetite... he will eat crayfish, shrimp, 2" GT's...., worms, beefhart and anything else that will fit into his mouth.

I think it's M. iheringi.... but max is 3" from what i have read so far...

any help would be greatly appreciated...

Very nice Giant BumbleBee Cat you have.. I have a pair hiding most of the time:D

mudfrog hit the nail on the head. I have two, and they are not only gorgeous, but have great personality. Very territorial so far, and I am giving the smaller one to a friend. Mind have grown from .5" to 3" in just two months.

Nice growth rate!!!!!!

yeah, it's like they came out of nowhere. I wasn't sure on the species exactly when I bought them, but with this growth I am now lol. Unless the others max out in only 2 months.

Ive got 2 of these guys ones I think 9 inch and the others 8 inch. There a very nice looking catfish and eat anything that will fit in there mouths.

Haha at the pet store I worked at someone dumped a bunch of 2-3 inch Kribs in the tank with these 2 guys and when I walked buy they were as fat as they were long and all the Kribs were hiding at the top terrified. So I picked em up and now are some of my favorite catfish.

It's funny when there stalking something, they almost just bounce along the gravel till they get close enough then explode at it.

do your's ever fight? Mine like to swim face to face with their mouths open kinda like cichlids. Then they will lock jaws and swim in circles.

Ive only seen them fight once, and it was when I first put them in my tank they went to the same rock, there was a little scrap but after that they've been fine together. They were in my 125 but now in my 75 and there doing good. I just made sure they each have there own hiding spot and during the day they seem to just keep to there spot.
