So earlier today, I looked in my tank and noticed that a fake plant had gotten unearthed. The ray was hiding under the substrate, but it looked like her tail was off to the right, so I went to dig the plant back into the gravel over to the left of her... Well, I was wrong, and her tail was actually curled to the left, right where i went to dig the plant. So I shoved the plastic end of the fake plant directly into her tail, and she jumped up and stung me in the thumb!!
:jaw:
Man did it hurt!! I ran to the sink and soaked it in hot water, and let me tell you, hot water is like a miracle cure for the poison!! I mean I had heard it was what you were supposed to do, but I didnt know the effect it had on the pain. My arm was in pain from my thumb up through my whole arm, shoulder, and a little into my chest, but the second I put it in hot water the pain would go away, and if I left the sink, it would come back after about 10 or 15 seconds. So I went to the hopsital (hurt like hell on the car ride over), and had to deal with people looking at me like I was crazy when I told them what happened. Luckily, the stinger went through the top of my thumb, very close to the skin, and not deep into a meaty part of my hand. However, when removing the rest of the barb, the doctor sliced an artery in my hand (awesome right). Anyways, there was a small fragment left in my hand which was removed. My arm stopped hurting right when they numbed me, and never came back, but my hand stung all night. Worst part is, I live with my parents, and my father is dead set on selling the ray now. Hes worried someone else might make the same mitsake and get stung, like my brothers, or my older grandfather, and maybe have an allergic reaction.:cry: All in all, sucked getting stung, but it was in self-defense and would never happen again as long as Im careful. REally though, it stings like hell. If you ever get stung, HOT WATER RIGHT AWAY, it neutralized the proteins apparently. And I always read the posts about watch out for the stinger, and I never though Id actually get stung. Ill post pics of the wound tomorrow, and I may be selling my motoro soon (female, nice spot pattern, about 11, 12", North NJ - Essex county, Ill post pics if I have to sell), so if so itll be in the classifieds... O Im going to miss my Motoro if I ahve to sell her :(:(:(:(:(:(

Wow, glad you made it out ok. One day when you move out im sure you will once again be a proud ray owner.

Could you tell us more about the hospital and doctor conversation that occurred? Did the nurses and doctor know what to do or did you have to wait while they looked it up a treatment?
