Sorry Mr Blood thirsty. But no pics until i know my son is healed. Does not seem right posting pictures of loved ones wounds when they are still in the treatment process. Plus i am just at the start of trying to get compensation from the tour operator and don't want to do anything to jeopardize the outcome.

I've been following this thread and just wanted to toss in my $.02.
This is a great example of why education / knowledge about your surroundings is so critical. This had all the right elements to be a VERY tragic story. Instead, you reacted exactly like you should have and prevented a MUCH worse situation from happening. I tip my hat to you and your son. I know what it can be like trying to get back on your feet after a tag of this level. It is no easy task and takes a lot of personal strength (physical and mental). Keep us posted and wish him well for us.

That is a terrible experience on a holiday but will be a great story to tell later on as already mentioned.
8 years ago one of my sons (he was 7 at the time) was stung by a "group" of jellyfish in Morocco. At the end of the day we find out that it was not serious (nothing comparable to your son´s episode), but the first couple of hours with the swelling, pain and fever - specially not knowing what kind of jellyfish it was - were really nerve-wracking.
Hope Josh continues his way to a full recovery.

i dont want to upset anyone and i realise this is a sensative subject.
i was stung by a small ray who i was trying to nudge into another part of a tank. my family were home and i didnt want them to worry so i said nothing . i was stung in my hand but i remember the pain was worst or at least most concerning when it was in my armpit. .... it quickly subsided however and as soon as i was stung i sucked the wound and immersed it in hot water. the pain came after but i survived. if there were more storys on here of people getting stung and actually it wasnt that bad i think it would help. im sure its no worse than a jellyfish sting.
i obviously cant say how bad anyone is but i hope they pull through and small injuries can become fatal so all caution is needed. dont want to play it down but dont want to aggrivate hate towards rays either.

As you say, every person and every sting is different. This was a good size ray of around one meter disk and 3 foot tail. It all happened so quick but my son and i definitely got a chance to see the ray and especially the tail as we had hold of it when we had to pull the barb from my sons leg. For some reason the ray could not get it's barb free from my sons leg. Due to this the ray was thrashing around which made the injury site a lot worse than it had to be. Thankfully my son apears to have turned a corner this weekend. He has started walking a little better and the wound is showing the first signs of healing since the attack which was 3 weeks ago now. Bear in mind though that he has needed to keep the wound dressed to stop infection so with no air geting to it the wound has taken a long time to start healing. Like i say, every sting is different. When this is all over i will post pics of the wound and you can see the development and understand how sometimes things get a lot worse before they get better!
