Damn, he's been 8" for almost a year?!?!!?

Do you know what size tank he was in before? Nice work on the save and nice pic of him yawning  Loooking forward to updates on this minimonster.

roughly 65gal, 4x1.5x1.5..was in a lfs. almost no filter on the tank and i'd bet they hardly fed the 15 or so gator gars in there...

I love the pic of him yawning! Look at those teeth and such pretty color! What are your plans for him when he outgrows the cubans? Wouldn't want him doing any harm to those bad boys, they're gorgeous.

Really like your cubans (I have one also. Had 2 but my black shark killed one in 2009).

My gator gar Atractosteus spatula grew very slowly also from 6" approx to 36" in 10 years. In the 52,000 now and really starting to put on weight. This is a pic catching him out of a 16' by 8' outdoor pond and then he was put into the big tank inside September 2009.

That's really interesting, do you know why that was?
Also did he just stay small and grow slow and steady over time or did he get to about 24" or something quickly and then it took a while for the last foot or so?
Also do you have any updated pic of that beast?
And excellent work on keeping a Gator Gar for 10 years + :headbang2
I can only hope I can say that one day as well...

Alex... It is not stunted just because it has been at that size for this short amount of time.. The sucker can come right back in no time at all to regular expected size. I have seen quite a few do this.

Current one I have I thought for sure was a true Bonsai gator. Stayed about 10 inches for two years. Yeah well now it is 2 1/2 feet long and it eats Florida gars that surpassed it's growth just a year earlier. It bumped up in just about a year.
