no cichlid expert but don't all cichlids have curved lateral lines?

Yes that one does seem to have an arch developing. Too bad because he's got nice spangles and color.

i got him from a guy that kept him in a 30 gallon tank his whole life not sure if that is the case, is there anything i can do to reverse it?and i have 3 of this males fry left after he killed the female, do you think the fry will have this problem too?

If that is the problem, the fry would not carry that trait or issue. No expert on genetics but common sense says no. How big is he and do you know the age? Like Jason said, he is a nice looking Festae, good color.

I doubt a 30 gallon would do that to a solo fish. A 3' x 12" tank would not cause that in a 5" fish. Honestly I would give him a 75 gal or so for now and keep him. I like his colors and he seems like a good fish.....who gives a **** about quality and prim fish......unless you are going to distribute and want to profit from them. I can understand not wanting to spread "bad" genetics. If its a pet.....keep him and give a good home IMO.
