Stunted poly?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good to know i am keeping him in the best care (as well as his friends) so hopefully i will wake up one day to a mysteriously huge poly. Because i think is over due a growth spurt LOL. Thanks for the info this is my very first bichir and i wouldn't want to loose him to anything. (if he was stunted i would've put him in a 40 gal when his friends got big) Thanks guys Dr.B

If I were you I wouldn't expect any "growth spurt".

It's captive bred with not so good genes. It is likely to stay small and stubby.

I'll wait until about late this year early next year to see if he has grown some. If he hasn't i'll buy him a nice 40 gallon with some yummy tetras lol.

also sens grow slow, super slow, some of them grow fast (luck of good genetics) but most, because the majority of them are captive breed, grow SLOW, like i cant even stress how slow growing they are, your sen is prolly just FAT lol.

My sen grew super fast, outgrew my ornate and delhezi so quickly that he got removed from the growout tank a month ago. he was always kind of stumpy looking. now at about 5" he has a small head and a big fat body. I have come to the conclusion that he is probably a short body of some kind. which makes it even more impressive that the fish grows so quickly. Since he got to 4" in the growout he has only grown about 1" in the last month but he has more than doubled in girth, and it never goes away. compared to the other senegals I have kept, the fins on his top seem to be much closer together. along with the girth shows me he is a short body.

also for those who say sens grow slow, especially albino sens, mine the fast grower is an albino sen, he out competed all my other growouts for food.

ya, i think having a fat short body is as good as having a long one. :)
