Stunted?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, what size tank is he in, and what are your water changes like? how often, and how much? Who are his tankmates?

Sometimes the stunting happens in the very early fry stages, if the fry were kept in an overstocked, poorly maintained tank....So it could be too late after one purchases such fish. The good news is, size and live span aren't directly related so a fish that was initially stunted, has the prospects of living its life to full potential....although it will not grow to the biggest possible size for the species.

But I agree on the food. There's a misconception that a variety of live/frozen foods is better than pellets....although the truth is the opposite. Pellets are nutritionally the best food one can give their fish, providing one is feeding them high quality pellets..

Again thanks for all the info. Right now he's being housed in a 55g with a halfbanded spiny eel and an African feather fin. I'll be moving him into a 125 when I get it hopefully. If not I can build a large plywood aquarium. Also for the water changes, as previously stated, I try to do 50% twice a week. Sometimes I'll do a smaller one if I see unsightly poo settling in a corner somewhere.
