Yeah if its like a week or less dont even bother having anyone take care of your fish. If more than that you really have to make detailed instructions.

TRUST NO ONE! Pre loaded individual zip lock bags with a date to feed posted on each bag. Sounds like a lot of unnecessary work. But I had to learn the hard way that it isn’t.

Fish can go with out eating every single day.... I dont trust anyone with my fish nor feel like i can get mad at them screwing it up since they arnt in the hobby and understand it. You left me in charge of a baby and id have no idea wtf to do with it. So I just do a large water change the night before. The morning I leave right before going out the door I put some black worms in a feeding cone in each tank. They feed off that however long it alst and dont eat until I get home. Last vacation I was gone for 11 days no problem. Not one fish died.

What i do is get a weekly medicine container and put the amount of required food in each day slot and they just feed them amount given inside the day's spot.

Sorry about that, also i am inferring you have large fish because you feed them pellets, these fish could have gone 2 days easily without food, as a matter of fact, pretty much any fish can go several days without food, in the wild they didnt get much "extra" food.

Well, they do sell automatic fish feeders at reasonable prices. Personally, I just fast mine when going out of town. No chance of overfeeding that way.

if its up to a week i bulk them up for a coupole of weeks heading up to it then just leave them. they can go without.
more than a week i fill egg cups with the amount i want used and leave a specific set of instructions. one cup per day.

^ Agreed. I fatten mine up a week prior to my departure. I give them high-quality proteins to put on weight. I've gone away for a week before. I also had my daughter stop over and dump pre-set meal bags in each tank every few days. We need to keep in mind that fish can go awhile without food.

So I left for two days to go to Gainesville for thanksgiving, left my roommate in charge of feeding my animals. I just got home at 12:30am Saturday morning and my filters are completely clogged with fish food and there's tons of it floating around in ALL SIX OF MY FISH TANKS, not to mention my waters totally foggy. I just did a w/c on everyone before I left... I'm pissed, my bag of brand spankin' new hakari is about gone. I just spent 20minutes fishing all the excess food out, I'll just have to do w/c AGAIN in the morning. Thankfully everyone else is okay. I had a feeling I needed to get home early.

Sorry, I'm just letting off some steam to people who understand... But seriously how hard is it to feed fish??????

It's not your roomie's fault. They're your fish. Your roomie can't be expected to know how to take care of your fish. You have to make it easy next time. Use plastic bags.

i use those daily pill planners i use 2 different ones. morning one is just flake and pellet. the night one is a bi dailt planner with alge waffers pellets and flake. i always have them filled for the just in case moments.
