i was at petsmart today buying a new filtration system for my new 75 gallon :headbang2 when i overheard one of the salesmen wrapping up a purchase of 7 balas in a 20 GALLON TANK:eek: the boy and his mom were also buying a dragon goby and a pleco.. poor fish :(

Thats terrible. I used to work at petco, at least there (least at my store) when morons would come in looking for fish that "looked cool" we wouldnt let them buy them. Or the people that worked there werent allowed to sell fish to people with small tanks. I was in one of my regular fish stores and saw these 2 eleventeen year olds come in wanting to buy oscars for a tank they hadnt set up yet, and didnt have a filter. I feel terrible when stuff like that happens

This kind of stuff makes me MAD the most....When people get fish and they are not Educated on them so they don't know how to care for them...then the fish die and they claim that Fish Die to Easy.

I couldnt tell you how many times I have overheard that at fish stores :(

Does the retail pet store have the obligation to educate everyone who buys products from them or is it a buyer obligation to prepare for their purchase?

A lot of pet stores lack training and development for its employees. Naturally, they would not plan this as it involves cost. Fish have been taken for granted so there's nothing you can do about it.:(

We have a policy of asking 3 Q's; What size tank, how long has it been set up for, and what other fish do you have? I added a 4th; how often do you perform wc's and how much do you change?
Unfortunately to most "regular" people fish are just "pretty Nemos that just need a cage and water". and many lfs employees don't try very hard to squash this idea. Very sad

It says on the tab that they need a 30 gallon tank to "swim freely" :screwy:

But apparently he told them that they will become "dwarf" if they are set up in a smaller tank.. what idiots :irked:
