No matter how many times I bring this up at my local fish shops, no one seems to know the difference if there even is one.
I have been wanting to know if there is a difference between the Rubber Nose Pleco and the Spotted Rubber Pleco? The pictures I see all look very similar, but pricing I find is different and they're obviously labeled different. Maybe it's just the stupidity of my local shops, but no one seems to know if there's a difference.
Can anyone help clear up my confusion?
(p.s: i know this is probably a dumb question)

According to planetcatfish, the rubbernose is from the middle Andean range, so I'm guessing it's being exported from Peru, which has an established fish exporting center, while the spotted rubber nose is from Columbia, which doesn't have this exporting system set up (in addition to the general drug-related instability). Thus the higher cost involved with exporting the spotted rubber nose.

Rubbernose (Chaetostoma sp. (L402)): http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=407
Spotted Rubber Nose (Chaetostoma milesi): http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=308

That's the opposite of what I thought. Around here the Spotted Rubber Plecos are quite common and sell for about $6 - $8. I'm assuming one is a sub-speices of the other?
I was just curious. Being that I am not big on researching things, I figured someone on here could answer my question. I was purely too lazy to look it up myself lol I also just now started to read aquaria literature so bare with me as I may have a few more "stupid" questions coming.

that could be a possibility, but I do believe I got the Spotted Rubber Pleco. The color is more a blueish-grey and its spots are really dark black and are larger towards the tail fin. I've been told the regular Rubber Nose Pleco is more a brownish-grey and has little to no spots. Please correct me if I'm wrong, this is just what I've been told. Either way, I have one or the other lol

Idk but I can't seem to ever keep a pleco alive

are you supplying any food? if there isn't a supple amount of algae in the tank you need to supplement it with algae wafers and other veggie rich wafers. also cucumber is real good too and they seem to love it. Plecos are fairly hardy (depending on the species) so I'm not sure why you would have a problem keeping them

You can try mine. I've never fed them anything nothing than what I've fed my other fish, didn't have driftwood for the first 5 years, one is 12 and the other is 10. If the world ended tomorrow it will be nothing but cockroaches and my plecos.
