Stupid question about teeth & chiclids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Chiclets are sold in Tijuana by little kids in need of money. They are a fruity gum that are pretty tasty. Cichlids are usually a fairly aggressive class of fish that are enjoyed by members of this forum.

Joking aside, I think GT is more aggressive than JD. If you have been keeping fish for years then you should be fine with them. If Walmart or Petsmart can keep them alive, you can.

If you have a question search and ask. That's what these forums are for anyways.

Don't overstock and read up. There is a wealth of information in these forums.

Ive seen heaps of JD's with and without teeth, the ones with teeth look like they would do a lot of damage. Having said that my most aggressive of my 5 JD's only fights if provoked.

Never seen a GT with teeth but a mature example will be pissed off constantly. (atleast mine is)

JD's like to chill in a cave and have a non-confrontational existance; big GT's go around looking for trouble and someone to bully. My GT will follow and flare at me if I get within 30cm of any part of the tank.

With the GT also he bullys but doesn't nip; he'll pretend to start a fight but its more to show others its his tank. Either way IMO the two are really quite relaxed aggression wise in comparison to a festae or something - my female festae will fight anything regardless of size; if shes fighting something really big she will flank it constantly, ambush from a remote cave shes built or just go for an enemies eyes.

wow! are teeth part of some recessive gene or something???

i wonder if its actualy a different species just because of that trait, and were all making a mistake on them

God: "ok, you get to eat meat and look bad ass... and you don't."

just because the teeth aren't visible don't mean they're not there; all jd's and all gt's have teeth, its just a matter of how large the teeth are; most cichlids teeth are hidden by their thick lips

i have a baby GT that killed what i beleive was his female. he's only about 2.5" and super aggressive. i picked him out cause he was the only one showing a nuchual hump. i think he's gonna need his own tank pretty soon. right now he's in a 75g with 2 trimacs, 1 chuco intermedian, and my feeder convicts. he's got the trimacs and chuco hiding behind the filters. i think it can go both ways and depends on the individual.

This guy is less than 4" and has quite the set of chompers already. Doesn't use them on anything other than food though, hope it stays that way.

My JD has always been one of the calmest fish in my tank. My GT isn't that bad either, but he's one of the smallest in a tank of six cichlids. The only cichlid I have whose teeth I can see clearly is my salvini.
