Anyone else get this feeling that people only show up on forums these days to ask stupid questions like can i put this with this or in this and then someone twice as stupid but all the while attempting to be super helpful writes back with some dumb jibberish that the guy asking the question could have googled but did and they said he couldnt but has put enough thought into it to think he knows its should work but everyone hes harrased so far and google keeps telling him hes wrong even though hes spent a week keyboard warrioring this set up and recons hes found a few loop holes and is going to reinvent the wheel anyway. Then comes the kikker and he finds out that what he was told by everyone was actually jibberish and it did work because all the people that told said person it wouldnt work was only working on some made up well it worked thirty years ago for that guy that seemed to know what he was doing and i couldnt be bothered arguing with him so he must be right jibberish. Stupid question first. Why isnt there no academic peer reviewed description of aquaria? Its one of the biggest hobbies on the planet. The taxicology is of is off its head and billions have been invested in piscine biology yet we still end up everyday with the same stupid basic questions. That very few of the loudest and proudest think they know the answer too. Why have so many fish have to be beaten to death because no one can get a straight snswer out of this lunacy.

Old threads should erase at some point or be reviewed.. recently I had a internal parasite pop up in my tank so I tried researching it.. you can find threads that say the exact opposite of each other.. its nuts

A lot of times I'll see someone ask a question and several members will simply say "search for old threads" or something similar. But I for one want to hear current opinions and ideas when i ask a question, not refer to old news. And i usually research thoroughly before asking anyways.

I imagine it gets tedious to answer the same question many times though.

I always research thru google and then i come here to see current thoughts and ideas from real fish keepers, not scientists and science because scientist cant really answer a question about nitrates and such if they never kept fish

I suspect that what you are describing is part and parcel of being a member of a forum, where the levels of knowledge and expertise are as broad as the vast array of species of fish at our disposal. We've got complete newbies and guys who have been keeping fish for decades. The same old silly questions are always going to come up and yes some completely ridiculous and unhelpful answers too.

You soon get to know who the go to guys are and you soon get to know who talks out of their backside too. Occasionally i've personal messaged some of the go to members with a problem because I know that if I put the same question out to everyone it'll get such a diverse array of answers i'd be none the wiser.

This forum has a wide range of experience between aquarists. It may seem like stupid questions to experienced guys but for the novices it’s a legitimate question. I don’t mind helping rookies with easy to answer questions as long as it’s bettering the hobby. Hopefully they have a positive experience and the hobby grows. Even more importantly the fish they care for have higher quality lives.

It's an open discussion forum and to the best of my knowledge intended to be as inclusive as possible. So as the expression goes "it is what it is".

Jibberish lol!

Why not? They can perform studies on a much better level than much of the "aquarist" science which is often anecdotal.
