hi guys, thanks to adzyhany i had the idea to make a thread about the stupidest things that petsmart/petco or any other fish salesmen/employees have told you... do you worst :headbang2

the department manager at petsmart told me that their feeder fish are not only nutritious, but don't harbor any diseases that can be passed onto my fish.

i got my first tank a 55gal when i was nine and guy said 2 pacu would live for life in it ( no internet back then ).i had them for a couple months until winter when lights went out for 3 days.

I find the people are hit or miss when it comes to responsible pet care.

When I purchased my Midas the Petsmart employee was good about asking my tank size first before going and catching my fish. After finding that the fish was going into a 120g tank he had no issue getting the fish even warning me of its aggressive nature. (I really wish I would have told him it was going in a 10g )

At another Petsmart I just pointed to the Jack Dempsey and said "I want that one", and never was asked about my tank size, tankmates, filtration, etc. I actually wondered if this person even had a pet or just believed that not knowing or caring was a better way of handling things.

and those feeder fish are dying because diseases!

i was told an ID shark could live in a 30 gallon for life with a lot of extra space..

Dumbest thing ive ever been told?
That I can't chase my dreams.

OK, I'm a first time gold fish owner, just over a week now, I got myself a 25Litre desktop aquarium and was told by the pet shop employee that I could keep 4 comets, 1 fantail and 6 little cloud fish, all in the one tank. I ended up purchasing 2 comets, 1, fantail and the cloud fish. Have since worked out that the tank will only be suitable for the little cloud fish.

Now I'm off to a different pet shop to purchase a bigger tank for the comets and fantail, plus a water testing kit. I guess in some pet shops it's all about the money and not the animals. Having said that, it's my fault for not researching properly before buying. Looks like an expensive lesson learned, however I reckon it's my responsibility to look after the little fellows accordingly....might even manage to teach the kids a lesson in the process.

Here is a pic of the tank that could supposedly house all these fish...
