stupidest things you've been told?

Petsmart always ask me for tank size and warns me of potential size and aggression. Other LFS dont really care.

I was at my lfs today and i was asking the owner about when they were getting more mbuna african cichlids in not the peacock and he pointed to the peacocks and said look there they are african peacocks 16.99 i turned and walked out

I was told my "chilid" gourami was cool looking.

I have been told that mbuna will do fine being fed simply Brine Shrimp and Bloodworms. Apparently, no one at either petco or petsmart has any idea what they're looking at. At petco, I asked if they had got any Penguin Tetras in and the associate referred me to the Panda Mollys, and at Petsmart, an associate told me that they didn't have any Melanochromis johannii, but they did have auratus... (they were actually johannii). Needless to say, I never ask anything anymore when I go to Petco or Petsmart, I just use my phone to verify what I'm looking at.

That pictus catfish have to live alone because they are so aggressive... oh ya and that my first red devil and pacu could live in my 55 for life, togther, with a giant pleco in there already... they are such a joke!!

i was told an ID shark could live in a 30 gallon for life with a lot of extra space..

OK, I'm a first time gold fish owner, just over a week now, I got myself a 25Litre desktop aquarium and was told by the pet shop employee that I could keep 4 comets, 1 fantail and 6 little cloud fish, all in the one tank. I ended up purchasing 2 comets, 1, fantail and the cloud fish. Have since worked out that the tank will only be suitable for the little cloud fish.

Now I'm off to a different pet shop to purchase a bigger tank for the comets and fantail, plus a water testing kit. I guess in some pet shops it's all about the money and not the animals. Having said that, it's my fault for not researching properly before buying. Looks like an expensive lesson learned, however I reckon it's my responsibility to look after the little fellows accordingly....might even manage to teach the kids a lesson in the process.

Here is a pic of the tank that could supposedly house all these fish...

ah im sorry! they will take advantage of anyone they think they can! my lfs owner tried to do that to me until she found out that i was a little more into it than she thought! thats a nice little starter kit you got there! keep it up and keep buying tanks! its addictive, in a good way:naughty:

ive noticed that too! the lfs just want to get rid of fish but my petsmart employees do ask me that question but they couldnt answer the first question i had about any of the fish besides maybe a goldfish lol. so no in depth questions for them! i think they are trained to ask that at mine!
