do i need a powerhead in my tank or just a air pump

Knowing what species you are getting is important too, if it's not a shovelnose (Scaphirhynchus platorynchus) or a Sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus) I wouldn't bother, any others really need colder water than most can provide and only these two are small enough at adult size to keep in any reasonable sized aquarium. I would chose the shovelnose over the sterlet due to it's warmer water tolerance and being easier to keep in a confined space.

i already got it. its in a 50 gallon for now. and its being runned by a whisper power filter. the water is around 72-74. its a white sturgeon got it for 20 bucks

If it does make it, be prepared for it to end up well over 4' long. It will take it seemingly forever to grow, but I worked with a group of 15 year old whites ranging from 30-50" and they still have plenty of growing to do. That 50 gallon wont last more than 6 months or so, and that's if the sturgeon is tiny right now.

I really plan on keeping another in the future, but probably never another white, and not until I can house a 700+ gallon stock tank

Just out of curiosity...

>_>

How long woulda sturgeon last in a 20 long? Seriously. I want the truth.

In a bare tank with really great filtration/aeration and low temps several weeks to a few months but you would be risking dwarfing him permanently.

Thats it!?

Woah...

Honestly, I just think they look like sharks, and thats pretty kool. Theres one in a petstore for 20 dollars and I really want it >_>

Is it illegal to set them free in their native waters?

Once it has been in your tank, never release into the wild.

Yes, it's both illegal and immoral to release a captive fish no matter what it's native waters might be.
