sturgeon are far from endangered, my buddy just went on a charter boat in the columbia river for em and caught a 4 footer. i would love to keep one but they really need a huge outdoor pond.

Lake sturgeon are actually really endangered because they used to be considered pest fish so a whole bunch of them were left to just sit there and rot on shorelines.....kind of sad on account of they are the biggest kind of sturgeon in north america:(

White Sturgeon are much larger than Lake sturgeon! The best kind for keeping would be shovel nose sturgeon. Mn state record was just caught and only in the 6-7 pound range. Sturgeon here in MN are getting much more common and doing well. I fish the st croix every week and during the season I catch close to 100 per season. I took my father up to the Rainy river and we caught 24 Lake sturgeon in one day over 40 inches long and more under that size. To me they are an awsome fish but not the kind to keep in captivity.

As far as catching them you can try shad, crawlers, fathead minnows, and small cutbait. It is only a few weeks away from season here on the croix and I am counting down the days.

i was at the colombia river and went to a fish farm (oregon)
you would need a giant pond, as in at least 2000 gallons for a sturgeon, they had some that were at least 9 feet maybe more

2000gallons is not going to cut it for a 9ft stergeon.

Nabbig2, when the sturgeon make there way back in the bay, you are more than welcome to hop on my boat and fish with me. I usually launch out of Redwood City.
