Are you certain this is Sturisomatichthys panamensis ? I've got a group since 2022 from a reputable vendor that have very different markings (no spotting).. Mine look like the images at planet catfish and scot cat. I know there are a few other Sturisomatichthys native to Panama, like Sturisomatichthys dariensis and Sturisomatichthys citurensis but yours doesn't resemble those either.. I think I've read there are other undescribed species in Panama from the genus Sturisomatichthys / Sturisoma. And there are other loricaria native to Panama like Rineloricaria uracantha and Rineloricaria altipinnis which seem to have more spotting and more round head profile unlike Sturisomatichthys / Sturisoma which tend to have a more pointed head profile.
According to PC and Fishbase, Sturisomatichthys panamensis is native to Panama Pacific Rivers, Colombia Caribbean Rivers, Colombia Pacific Rivers, Ecuador Pacific Coast Rivers.
I currently have maybe 8 to 10 different groups of whiptail loricaria in my fishroom including current growouts of Sturisomatichthys panamensis and Sturisomatichthys aureus (Colombia). I also had a group of Sturisomatichthys leightoni but moved them to a friend due to aggression from my Heros Inirida.. Many look similar but are easier to distinguish when seeing them in person...
