Does anyone know where I should look for large Styrofoam blocks. I'm going to make a half land half water setup with a pool up top and sort of a river / fall coming down. I like Joey's background but I'm worried about siliconing pieces together & then trying to shape them. Cured silicone is a bit hard to shape (compared to the attached Styrofoam). So where can I get a big chunk of Styrofoam and start carving? I checked the local hardware stores, craft stores, etc. I'm thinking I need to be looking at some sort of business application, rather than retail. Something used in packing or shipping?
Anyone have any leads?

Oh,, I'm looking for a piece about the size of a 30gl.

Thanks.
Joel

i've been looking all over.. there's a few places that sell it in bulk.. so you'd have to spend like $300 and get like a million pieces of it.
i'm gonna keep looking though.

So far the best I've found is a full sheet of about 1" maybe a little thicker, at Home Depot. for $12.
Knowing this, it kills me to see a small square 6" for $8 at craft stores.

I know there has be big chunky scraps somewhere.

I have to ask our composites guy, but you can buy a mix of stuff (like greatstuff), mix it up, poor it in a box of any size. Then remove the box and start carving. When I see him I'll ask him the name of the place.

I think I've found the answer. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43237&highlight=great+stuff
Check out post #20 I think this will work. He used Great Stuff instead of silicone which is very carvable. The guy has stopped posting though & hasn't updated since Nov. Is it me or did he use the Pink insulation panels? I like the texture of these better than the normal styrofoam.

I was thinking about trying just that with greatstuff as well.
