Styrofoam blocks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just talked to our composites guy and the names of the foams are handyfoam and ncfi. Both are polyurethanes and I'm not really sure how that works for aquariums, but handyfoam is used by pond builders. JoelR, you have a pm.

My dad just got crap load of foam, as in about 10 feet of it left over. I'm pretty sure he'd be more than happy to ship some of it to you.

buy a chunk of foam from an old dock, most ppl give that stuff away just to get rid of it.

Thank you to everyone. I've decided to use the greatstuff as the glue to layer sheets of it. I'll be able to shape the greatstuff right along with the styrofoam.

Thanks again.
Joel

go check out furniture stores. i used to work at one and we got huge blocks of styrofoam that we threw out everyday. we're talkin blocks 2ft x 2ft x 2ft.

Hi, although I don't have fish (I'm a cat owner, go figure) while researching tips on carving styrofoam for a tiki project I am interested in I came across this link which may be of interest....

Please note the cautions about finding fish friendly products & be carefull of any fumes if using hotwire blades & tools when carving **very toxic**

Anyone else done anything simular with styrofoam? I would be interested in the process you used, any tips to share & pics of final projects.
