Hey, I am setting up a 600 gallon, 8'x4'x30", with a custom built stand. Should I put some sort of styrofoam under the tank? Thanks

I would ask the manufacturer of your tank what they suggest.

generally, acrylic tanks always require styro.

Glass tanks with a floating bottom (braced bottom where the glass doesnt touch the actual stand like most stock tanks these days) do not require foam and it voids the warranty on some manufacturers like Marineland

Glass tanks without a floating bottom, yes, foam is recommended.

but I agree, check with your manufacturer.

Go ahead and put foam down. It won't hurt, but it could help.

only case where you wouldnt want one is as mentioned aboved, if you have floating glass bottom where the bottom glass sits inside a support frame structure..

600 gallons is alot of weight, you could also email another manufacturer for recommendations for tank that size.i know foam IS recommended with acrylic tanks, but i would want to know how thick, what type, etc.i think the stand needs to have complete coverage/support for the tank bottom also
