Submersible Aquarium Heater

This is getting confusing now, haha some people say where the current is..others say it can carry the heat out by itself!

What kind of reptiles do you have? I had some Red Eared Sliders in a 40 gallon tank and had about 1/4 of it land and the rest water. I never needed a heater because my heat lamp that I had pointing on the big rock kept water temp at about 85 degrees. I loved those turtles but it ended up costing me alot of money to support them and I felt I couldnt give them the care they deserved so I got rid of them.
 
mine is a sonora mud turtle.
wow..what kind of heat lamp were you using?
