Subsrate question

I was walking by local lumber shop and noticed pallets of sand in plastic wrap I asked how much and they said 1.50 and it was around 40-50 pounds each bag. Any one ever use plan basic sand. Looks like the type used to build damn/levy around construction site sometimes. Any thoughts as for the price it can't get any better.

I don't see why you could not use it.

I have used builders sand in my 60 l and 325 l tank for 2 years. Plants and fish are happy and i also like it. It looks so natural and i havent had any problems with that sand. My clown loach and corys really love it.

it might leach silicates, but thats about it

Is there a big issue with it leaching silica, or a way of removing? Looking to making a sand pile by stacking egg crate with river rocks and sand on one side and sand on the other. Hoping the egg crates will help keep the rocks above the sand while the sand only side will give my eel place to dig himself in.
