Substrate depth

Hi I am wondering how much media I need to buy for 1" depth for a tank 72" 36"?

Depends - are you keeping any burrowers?

I have a deeper sand bed in my tank because I have an eel who likes to burrow sometimes. If I didn't have an eel I wouldn't have it as deep as I do.

No i don't have anything that would Burrow

I've seen others mention this calculator before: http://www.garf.org/calculators/SandBedCalculator.asp. I've never used it though. What kind of substrate are you planning on using, because I'm sure that would affect how much you need.

if you dont have an undergravel filter, a shallow substrate is good. ive seen some people that dont have any substrate at all. deep substrate gets messy and could make nitrates rise.
