Figured this would be interesting since substrate is always highly discussed. Last week i painted the bottom of a 75 gal colonial red.

The long term goal of this tank is to keep some of the smaller upper jaws and heterospilus in while moving the bigger guys to the 300 gal once its set up. Figure we can compare what they look like on a red bare bottom tank to red garnet sand (when it arrives) then remove the garnet sand and add some black sand on say half the tank while the other half would be bare bottom/red.

Gonna also keep the Bv In the 75 to see how the different substrates affect him.

Also painted a small 20 gal qt...figured what the heck

Still have to clean her up a bit but we should have fish in there tomorrow. Figure we'll see what they look like with just the red paint, then the red garnet, then tthe final product will have some black sand to cover the center brace and maybe an island type thing who knows.

I'll just store the garnet sand for the new tank.

Jaws is going Rogue!!! Think the painted bottom will start a trend. :-)

Lol i actually got the idea from another member. I think it was framcosco's pleco tank. If i remember correctly he painted it a burnt orange. I always wanted to try it but never got around to it.
