I am looking to stock my 65 gallon with a sump and I am looking to house a jardini, RTC or Gulper, Buttikoferi, and possibly a TSN. What substrate would be best? I heard sand is hard to use the gravel vac w. And I also heard that small pond rocks work well (the ones about the size of a pea).

Sand is the "easiest" when it comes to vacuuming!!! Gravel??? You're asking for it!!! I just got done replacing my gravel with sand and will NEVER use gravel again. It was a bear to vacuum and I just no longer could keep up with it!!! There was so much gunk in the gravel that no matter what other maintenance I did, my nitrates remained sky-high.

With sand, you just vacuum (lightly) the top of it and -- blammo -- it is done.

Are you a troll or just woefully ignorant?

???? I am assuming that this is directed at "me"? I confess - I am lost as to what I did to set you off.

Lol not you. Maybe the OP doesn't know any better.

OP, none of the fish you talked about are reccommended for a tank your size. I would suggest you do some research on the fish.

On the substrate I would agree with drdrewr.

I understand all of these fish grow much larger than this tang can house. This is a temporary tank. I have a 125 that I do not have space for...yet. Thank you Drdrewr and thanks ghostshrimpman for being a prick. Obviously I still have some to learn but I know that RTCs grow huge as well do TSNs. And Arowanas need a long tank. I understand all of this, just wondering if sand was as amazing as ive heard because I heard that it had its cons.

Im looking to get smaller RTC about 3" and if i decide to get a TSN i will get the same size or I will just not get a RTC or TSN and just get a gulper if I can get a hold of one, because chances are that the gulper will eat the bottom feeders, and probably wont be able to eat my Buttikoferi 6". But I understand I run the risk of having my jardini eaten if I put one with a gulper as well.

Hey chill, no need to call me a prick. It's just that some people don't understand, but I now see that you do, no prob. Just be ready for a MONSTER pond (1000+g) if you want an RTC.

And yes, I would go with sand.

I just hate when everyone seems to think that I am ignorant to everything. I am learning but I am not going to buy a fish on impluse. Sorry about that ghostshrimpman. Im probably gonna go from 65-125-240 then look at maybe building a pond.

Alright, no problem. That's a good plan. Just make sure you can get everything up and running quick when you upgrade, because I've heard of some RTC's growing 2+ inches a month.
