Substrate for my goldfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you have to rinse the sand very well before adding it to the tank to remove all the dust particles. when you rinse it long enough, the only grains remaining will sink within a few seconds instead of remaining suspended in the water cloumn (causing cloudiness). as long as the filter intakes are not way down on the bottom of the tank the sand won't get sucked up.

IMO almost every tank looks more natural and better with a substrate. If the gravel is big enough, the goldfish, in extreme cases, could swallow it. Due to the size it would cause internal problems. But sand, or small gravel like BB size is no problem. In nature anyway, goldfish sift through the sand/gravel. No different to man-made species, just different looks, really.

Ewww...that came out bad. And totally uncalled for too. My experience there was with a select few rather than the entire population. It is not fair to make such broad generalizations, and I forever shall leave them at the door; my appologies to everyone. I am going to shut up now.
