What substrate do you guys use with your polys if any sand, gravel, barebottom or something else. Would gravel be a bad thing for them like would it harm them in anyway like it does eel, corys and clown loachs.

Some people have lost em w/ gravel due to ingestion of gravel but some people keep the w/ gravel just fine. Sand is safer IMO but bare bottoms work for me for ease of cleaning and minimal risk.

Thanks again bro I guess that probelm could be the same with any fish though but I don't know much about polys never had one but for sure want to get a few. All I know is I'm getting fed up with this whole debris on the sand thing thats in my other post you replied to.

i used to have bare-bottom,
but now i use 3m color quarts S grade red sand.
it's very aesthetically appealing, and it bring out bichirs' color.

sand for me as ime gravel traps more debris, yes sand lets it sit on top but at least you can see it and clean it up,ive got a mixture of very fine white sand and a slightly larger black grey which is a lot easier to deal with than the finer white stuff which i will be siphoning off every wc from now on.
And obviously the lighter the substrate, the lighter your polys will be,i prefer mine on dark but the red sand hao has got looks very good but is not very natural looking imo.
