Substrate idea for my 75 gal with peacock bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i myself now use bare bottom (previously had black substrate and background) noticed heaps nicer colours in growouts that are in a 150g with bare bottom. The black just made the fish really dark and at young age no colour

Thanks all. Unfortunately (and please don't give me too much crap about this) the 75 gal is my big tank. Almost bought a 120 last year, but I just don't have the wall space for anything bigger.

Lighting may be a key issue I'm facing. Right now my fish looks dark. I have a Solarmax H.O. light that puts off a blueish light. What light would y'all recommend?

Bass Man, very pretty mono!

Did he say blue grval :O! Why not mix it with pink gravel?! All jokes on your blue gravel aside, black bare bottom, black tiles or natural color of your choice is the way to go. It's really all personal preference. I find that water quality and diet along with decent lighting is what really has the most effect on color.

I went from a bare bottom guy to natural colored sands and river rocks (too expensive) but i was recently convinced by /\ (Houdini) to start using black gravel/rocks and i dont think ill ever go back. It definitely makes the fish's color darker but as long as you have some fake or live plants in there the bass wont look too dark and the spangles will definitely stand out. But aside from that diet, water quality and aeration are key to keeping a fish stress free and therefore looking its best.
