There are so many substrates out there specially designed for planted tanks that contain special fertilizers. I always wondered how do you maintain the levels of fertilizer as I am sure that stuff will not last you forever?
Any suggestions for liquid fertilizers? You can dose liquid ferts, and also lay off vacuuming the substrate and let the detritus collect in it as this will also provide nutrients for the plants..
Sea Chem who makes Eco Complete reports that the nutrients that are in their substrate will last something like a lifetime. There was an artical on this that I saw a while back. If I can find it again I will post a link. It is also a good idea to dose water column ferts also as most plants uptake through their leaves much better then their roots.
