Substrate question

not all species of bichirs are equally affected by substrate color. since senegal doesn't have patterns, the 'contrast' issue doesn't come in, but its color could change/darken/lighten depending on the substrate.
 
black substrate ( fine black sand ) with black background! :headbang2

In my experience, my endlis look much better, all my fish stand out wickidly and i like it so much so, that i converted all of my tanks to Black on black! highly recommended...simple and effective..."]

Def much better than the washed out look they had on the white substrate...imo...

I have used a balck substrate wich i have mixed with some red and the result i think was very very good it add contrast to my fishes if only i could post some pictures to show all of you. may be next time

Did you use black/red gravel or sand or a combination of the two?
