I am going from a 55 gallon to a 75 tank for my CA cichlids. I currently have a substrate that is a mixture of crushed coral and sand. I will need to add to this to compensate for the increase size. I have heard of recomendations to use pool filter sand. I assume this is the same stuff I use in my Vortex diatom filter. My concern is is I add this when I use my polishing filter won't the sand just get sucked up?" I alos have seen some beach sand advertised on ebay, would that be a good subsdtrtate?

Thanks.

PFS is not diatomatious earth. You can go to a pool store and buy a 50lb bag for about 10 bucks that will be about all you'll need.

yeah i would go with PFS over beach sand, beach sand will mess with your water parameters and make the water harder than you want. pool filter sand wont mess with your water, just make sure to rinse it thoroughly so you have minimal clouding
