Be careful of the 3M color quartz. It is extremely dirty, wash it really really good. I thought I washed mine good and it still stained the aquarium, had to scrub it all off.

I've had pool filter sand, black tahitian moon sand, and black 3m colorquartz sand and I like the pool filter sand the best. The black sands make the fish scrap stand out like a sore thumb so unless you want to clean the bottom every day I would go with pool filter sand. Also, I like the contrast to the black back of my tank. With black sand it was TOO black.

yea thats what im worried about i dont want it to look too black, do you have any pics of your tank with pool filter sand and tahitian moon?

can anybody please post pictures of tanks with black background and tahitian moon sand and with pool filter sand? having a really hard time deciding :irked:

I have some gravel before, switched to sand and I love it. Only thing I dont like is the poo stands out a little more, but its easier to clean and I think it looks way better.

I got a couple of pics I can put up here for you, I have got a black background as well, but not your typical one. I used window tint instead of painting the back, now I think I would have a tough choice to paint or use the tint. I didnt paint because its not my tank, its the girl friends. I think the tint looks really good, its almost kinda smoked almost, not totally black, but dark enough that you cant see the hoses and such behind it.

Check out the pics!

Forgot to add, I mixed in some of the gravel with the sand, I think it made it look a little more natural, so its not so pure sand. I think I am going to change out some of the gravel that I have in there now which is a brownish color to a darker brown or black and smaller size, but I think it breaks up the sand so it doesnt look so "perfect".

Good luck with the decision, thats the hardest part I always seem to find.

thanks for the pics man and your background looks sweet tinted
yea it is the hardest part im like going back and forth with what i want

If you tank the L x W x H (of the sand you want) and divide that by 20.... that will give you the pounds of sand or gravel

I don't have any pics with the black sand, I even did a combo of black and pool filter sand and it looked okay, but pure pool filter sand looks the best. I will try and take a pic today.

decide yet?
