My mom decided to go visit family in El salvador again and I had asked her to pick up a few Red Tigers from the local stream. She was able to bring back six. 2 did not make the trip. The other 4 are great looking specimens. I have a 6" male, a 5" female, a 3" male and an unsexable 2 incher.
Along with them came the two convicts I requested. They look to be both male at this point (2"). Prior to her leaving, I gave her a 3-177 form from the fish and wildlife service. I provided all neccessary supplies as well as instructions. Turns out she didn't need to do anything as my uncle remembered how we packed the first RTM's back in August. He did a great job. He placed the larger fish in separate bags and placed the 6 smaller fish together. That may be what caused the two to perish. They looked severely beat up. They were fine when bagged earlier.
I just began the acclimation proccess and it appears that the female has suffered injuries from the male. Turns out he killed two other large females in the holding tank as well as some of the younger ones.
I snapped these two pictures of the larger RTM's as I pulled them from the bags. I will take pictures within the next few days if all goes well.
I love the coloration on this Geographical variant. The males are a lemon yellow and the females a nice orange.
The 6" male.
and the 5" female
