I just introduced market shrimp for the first time in my Shortnose gar tank, and 4 of the 6 gar all ate some!!!!

I think training them off feeders is going to be easier than I thought...

yeah, its pretty easy getting them on market shrimp.. They will all eat them once they starting to see the other gars eating the shrimp. Congrat!

Well, I was feeding the bluegill, freddie, and bichir frozen bloodworms and freeze dried krill, and one of the gars ate an entire cube of bloodworms, and another ate a piece of krill in addition to the shrimp!

The cool thing is the one that ate the shrimp and the krill, is one of the ones I'd already decided I was keeping for sure.

You can also try mealworms or crickets. Works for me.

Not sure what species, just labeled as "white shrimp" at my grocery store... I buy it by the pound and cut it into bite size pieces at home.
