Successfully breeding flowerhorns that are extremely aggressive.

well she laid them today and shes defending her territory like a crazy *****.

I thought I could put the male over there and she swam so fast around the tank I couldn't even see her. She looked like a bullet. So I just put him back and I guess I will wait for her to eat these eggs and then work on creating some viewing blocks out of more driftwood, PVC pipes, plants and stuff.

Then I will try to open the entire tank so both can swim freely and hopefully in harmony

well they are free for the night, will check on them in 10 hours tomorrow morning. I took the egg crate out and just added 3 pieces of driftwood, 4 plastic plants, 2 flowerpots, and 8 different pieces of rocks.

male is chasing the female around a lot but she gets away and hides for at least 10 minutes and then they go at it again for another 5 minutes or so. No lip locks and no biting though. They are just chasing each other.

I am thinking of adding more coverage though. I will see in the morning. If the female is tattered I will add a huge ornament from my 29 (community tank) becasue they don't really use it anyway. But I wanted to give them some free swimming space so I left one left side a little open.

anyway I will see how this goes, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Hope all goes well for you, don't forget to post some pics

Steve

Yeah I took the female out and shes in a 10 gallon with 2 cory cats recooperating. The male did a number on her a couple nights ago. I don't know if I will ever be able to breed these 2. Who knows.
