sudden death on bichirs

This is the only picture I have, but this is a different one. This died last week with the same issues, he is probably 11 inches or so. Will internal parasites do this thing? They aren't bloated or anything. They are active and eating and then next thing you know they are swimming erratically.

Did you shake the hell out of the nitrate test solutions if not shake them like crazy. Also shake the hell out of the test tube. I have a ridiculously planted 30 gal with a small paradise fish and raph cat i feed lightly but still get atleast 5ppm of nitrates. Im not sure about why your polys died dr.b im sure will figure it out but i would be conerned with 0 nitrates

This has happened to me many times man .... Never figured it out some of the random deaths the water was totally fine
